Definition

A Form W-2 is a wage and tax statement used to report wages paid and the taxes withheld from those wages for a given calendar year. A copy of this form is given to the employee, the IRS and the state taxing authority (if applicable) each January for the prior calendar (tax) year.

Verify your mailing address is current

At least one active address is required in Banner whether you elect a paper or electronic Form W-2. Verify that your mailing address (or permanent, if no mailing address is provided) is correct in Banner by Dec. 31 annually.

Check your federal tax withholding

The IRS released a new withholding certificate in 2020 that applies to tax years 2020-26. A “paycheck checkup” is encouraged for all employees to ensure their tax withholdings are correct. Follow these IRS tips and use the IRS withholding calculator to perform a quick “paycheck checkup.”

Update your withholding

If you’ve determined that you need to update your current year’s withholding amount using the tools provided above, changing the withholding on your Form W-4 is easy. Note that due to IRS restrictions on foreign national taxation, this option is not available for our foreign national employees.
